A Google-backed company that offers a $ 99 DNA test has drawn the ire of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
The FDA sent a strongly-worded letter to Anne Wojcicki, CEO of 23andMe, telling the company to "immediately discontinue marketing" its Saliva Collection Kit and Personal Genome Service (PGS). The agency wrote that the PGS does not comply with federal marketing regulations, and it chided 23andMe for not addressing the legal issues previously noted during "more than 14 face-to-face and teleconference meetings, hundreds of email exchanges, and dozens of written communications."
