More than 100 social media posts later, Cory Booker will be the Democratic candidate for New Jersey's open seat in the U.S. Senate. He'll go against Republican candidate Steve Lonegan in the special election planned for Oct. 16.
Booker beat three other candidates — U.S. Representatives Frank Pallone and Rush Holt, as well as , New Jersey General Assembly speaker Sheila Oliver. On the Republican side, Steve Lonegan, the former mayor of Bogota, N.J., cruised past Alieta Eck, a doctor who has never run for public office before.
