Microsoft Solves Xbox's 'Red Ring of Death' Problem

If you've ever owned an Xbox 360, you know about the fatal "red ring of death" — lights in the front of older Xbox 360 models would glow red if the console overheated to the point that it was unplayable and needed repairs.

Microsoft confirmed that won't happen with the upcoming Xbox One, as it will be able to detect its internal temperature and cool down as necessary, reports Gizmodo.

"Xbox One can actually dial it back to a lower power state, so low in fact that it can in a mode that uses virtually no air flow," Leo del Castillo, Xbox's general manager of console development, told Gizmodo. "The way we designed the box, we don’t actually intend it to ever have to go to maximum speed under normal environmental conditions. But there is overhead. So we’ll allow the fan to go all the way up to its maximum speed and if that solves the condition without the user having to do anything." Read more...
